Teaching is a very fun and rewarding career. Studying this two year, part-time course with us will give you the skills you need to enter into the Lifelong Learning Sector of post 14 to 16 education. Our tutors can draw on their years of experience in both teaching this course, and experience of teaching in the industry.

This course is split into two pathways depending on your prior qualification. You can study the Cert Ed if you have a Level 3 qualification, but not obtained a degree; and you can study the PGCE if you are qualified to degree level. Both pathways are taught together over the two years, where you will learn how to effectively plan lessons, practise your teaching technique and develop your own teaching style.

Your learning will be split between, practical teaching activities and classroom observations, with the other half consisting of theory and academic study. Over the duration of the course you will develop a good balance of interpersonal and academic skills, which are essential to help you complete the course and start your career in teaching.
In your second year you will compile growing evidence of your teaching skills and you will be able to demonstrate the important connections between key educational theories and their practice. Throughout the course of the year you will also undertake a research project to help you become a more analytical and reflective practitioner.
